ARAB306 - Media, Culture, and Society
Course Description
This course explores the relationship between media, culture, and society across the Arab world from the early 20th century to the present. Students examine how newspapers, radio, film, television, and digital platforms shape cultural expression, public debate, and social change. Through analysis of films, news reports, popular music, satire, and contemporary social media, students consider how narratives about gender, identity, religion, politics, and globalization circulate within and beyond the region. Emphasis is placed on interpreting cultural and media artifacts as sources that reflect and reshape Arab societies. This course develops skills in critical interpretation, cross-cultural analysis, and evidence-based argumentation. Taught in English; no prior knowledge of Arabic required.
